I have met Adelard Blackman at the UN Indigenous Forum in NYC in 2005 since then it has been a richfull experience he shared with me on his road to justice. Justice and respect for has people they never received. I had the honor to be at the UN, NYC on Sept. 13, 2007 and experienced an overwhelming sadness und un justice for not only Canada but Australia, New Zealand and the United States.

With an overwhelming majority of 143 votes in favour,
4 negative votes cast (Canada, Australia, New
Zealand, United States) and 11 abstentions, the
United Nations General Assembly (GA) adopted the
Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples on
September 13, 2007. The Declaration has been
negotiated through more than 20 years between
nation-states and Indigenous Peoples.

Destination Rising Sun wishes to contribute, with the proceeds of the art , to him and the peoples' success to justice, respect and peace. We thank Adelard for his tireless efforts and thank him also for his guidance and support throughout the years.

Buffalo, is the survival given to us

Sharing the warmth during the cold winter with strength of survival at night

Respect for the Buffalo

Respect for this earth

Respect for all the living

With respect walking the past.

"By Any Means Necessary" tells the story of the Buffalo River Dene Nation, a First Nation located in Saskatchewan, Canada, and their current legal battle with the government of Canada. In 1994, when two hunters, James Sylvestre and Harry Cataract, were arrested for trespassing and illegally hunting within a government-controlled area, the community of Buffalo River rose to the defense of the hunters. This area was traditional Dene hunting grounds, but was turned into an air weapons bombing range in 1954. The bombing range was used by the Canadian and US armed forces for bombing practice during the cold war, although it was found that 99.5% of land was handed over to multinationals for oil exploration and mining. Band elders asserted that the land in question was part of their traditional lands and the treaty signed with Canada in 1906 gave them the right to use that area. Through a series of cases and appeals, a guilty verdict was finally handed down by the Canadian legal system. Determined to clear the name of the hunters, the Buffalo River Dene Nation is now attempting to charge Canada in the International Court of Justice with the breaking of their 100 year-old treaty.
